If there’s one thing every new parent should know, it’s this: those first cuddles matter more than you think.

Placing your newborn directly on your bare chest (skin-to-skin) right after birth isn’t just comforting—it has incredible benefits for both you and your baby. Skin-to-skin contact helps regulate your baby’s heartbeat and temperature, stabilizes their blood sugar, and even helps calm both of you after the intensity of birth. Babies held skin-to-skin also cry less and tend to latch more easily when breastfeeding, making the start of your feeding journey a little smoother.

But it’s not just about the science, it’s about connection. Those quiet moments lay the foundation for a strong emotional bond, helping your baby feel secure and loved from the very beginning.

Tip:

Try to spend as much time as possible cuddling your baby skin-to-skin in the first hours and days. Dads and partners can (and should!) join in, too. These moments are truly precious
